He has more than 25 years experience in the safety/risk management arena with organizations ranging from small/medium firms to large, complex multinational corporations.     Prior to forming East Coast Risk Management, Michael held the position of Director, Safety, Health and Environmental Management for a large multinational corporation where he oversaw a staff of professionals responsible for more than 35 facilities in eight countries. He was directly responsible for the safety, health and workers’ compensation programs as well as all environmental and safety compliance efforts. He also oversaw the environmental due diligence efforts of the corporation during more than twelve manufacturing facility acquisitions and divestitures as well as corporate mergers.

Mark graduated in 1980 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) with a BS in Safety Engineering, then went on to get his Masters in Safety from the same University. Mark also received a second Masters degree in Public Management with a concentration in Human Resources and Health Care Administration from Carnegie Mellon University.

    Mark began his employment in 1980 as Director of Corporate Safety for the PDM Corporation. For fifteen years, Mark was the Senior Director of Risk Management for Allegheny Health Education and Research Foundation, one of the largest non-profit hospital systems in the United States. While with AHERF, Mark managed a self insured and self-administered workers’ compensation program. Mark then worked as a Vice President for the Frank Gates Corporation; a workers’ compensation claims administrator, and finally District Manager for CorVel Corporation before coming to East Coast Risk Management. Mielnicki, Esq.Human Resource AttorneyRenee Mielnicki graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and went on to earn a Juris Doctor degree from Duquesne University School of Law. She began her career at the law firm of Seewald, Mielnicki & Petro in 2001 where she practiced primarily in the areas of administrative, civil and criminal litigation. She then went on to serve the Allegheny County Housing Authority as its Associate General Counsel from 2007 to 2013.

    Her role with the Housing Authority was diverse, but included contractual work, policy drafting, union issues and grievances and a wide range of human resource related issues. Renee joined East Coast Risk Management in October 2013 as its General Counsel/Employment Law Consultant where she then began to focus exclusively on human resource and employment related issues.

  • 3John Schuster, CWCARisk Manager - Safety ProfessionalJohn Schuster serves as a Senior Safety Consultant out of East Coast Risk Management’s North Huntingdon, PA office. John earned a bachelor’s of science degree in Safety and Environmental Management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 2010.

    Prior to joining East Coast Risk Management, John was employed as a Safety Coordinator with the Joseph B. Fay Construction Company. His duties included: performing safety audits, developing safety and health plans, completing employee training, and identifying root causes/ preventative measures. John also spent some time as the Safety Manager for Flowline Industries in New Castle, PA. He also acted as one of the primary safety and security personnel while holding the role of Clinical Manager at George Junior Republic’s 500 plus acre campus located in Grove City, PA.

  • 4Gordon Peterson, PEEnvironmental SpecialistsGordon Peterson serves as the Manager of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) for East Coast Risk Management. Gordon holds a B.A. in Communications and a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He earned an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois. Gordon also received one of the initial Cray supercomputer grants from the National Science Foundation and was involved in a post degree computer modeling program of kinetic groundwater transport at the University of Illinois, Stanford University and the University of Waterloo in Canada.

    Gordon has more than 25 years experience in the EH&S and Engineering Services arena working both within the consulting and construction industry as well as directly for a Fortune 500 multinational manufacturing firm. His unique relationships with numerous key firms in the Environmental and Engineering services sector have proven a valuable asset to ECRM clients, in both large and small projects. Gordon is a licensed Professional Engineer who participates in several industrial advocacy groups and professional societies.

     

    Prior to joining East Coast Risk Management, Gordon held the positions of Director, EH&S, and Senior Manager of Strategic Sourcing EH&S, for a large multinational corporation responsible for over 30 manufacturing plants and 700 retail operations worldwide. This position required a broad range of EH&S activities, acquisition/divestitures of businesses, and capital projects in the chemical, coatings and glass manufacturing and distribution sectors. Prior to that, Gordon moved from the project engineering level of a small environmental consulting firm to the position of Senior VP of Operations with one of the largest environmental engineering and remediation companies in North America. This experience enabled Gordon to develop a thorough understanding of the compliance requirements and risks involved in all areas of the industrial sector regardless of a company’s size or limitations. It has given him specific exposure to the compliance needs of the petrochemical, health services, transportation, energy and both light and heavy manufacturing sectors.

  • 5John Schuster, CWCASafety ProfessionalAs Manager of Safety Services for East Coast Risk Management, I support the offices located in Bedford, Pennsylvania, Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, Raleigh, North Carolina, Lexington, North Carolina, and Tyrone, Georgia.

    Prior to joining ECRM, I worked for 24 years at Airborne Express/DHL Express throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania.  As a senior level manager, I had responsibility for operations, human resources, labor relations, contract negotiations, risk management, and the safety programs covering both the driver network and aircraft operations. My experience included responsibility for DOT, FAA, TSA and OSHA compliance.  Additionally, I was tasked with the development and implementation of compliance programs for DHL’s extensive Independent Contractor network throughout the Eastern half of the United States.

     

    I hold the Occupational Health and Safety Technologist Designation issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. I am an authorized National Safety Council Defensive Driving trainer. I have completed Motor Carrier Safety Compliance training from the U.S. Department of Transportation Safety Institute, Mediation and Investigation training at Cornell University – NY School of Industrial and Labor Relations, OSHA compliance training, and held certifications in the acceptance, inspection, and transportation of Hazardous Materials, and as an aircraft weight and balance load-master for over 20 years. I  served as DLH’s Ramp Safety Coordinator at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and was SIDA qualified.

     

    Currently, with East Coast Risk Management, I provide specialized risk management services to a diverse client base. Services include traditional safety programs in both construction and general industry, DOT driver and vehicle compliance, hazardous materials, drug and alcohol testing programs,conducting accident Investigations and OSHA compliance audits. I provide a wide array of training for both management and employees and works closely with my clients on personnel and HR issues that closely relate to traditional safety programs.

     

  • 7Tyler Lukart, CWCASafety ProfessionalAs a safety consultant at ECRM, I work with clients in several different industries that include, but are not limited to general construction, electrical contracting, machine shops, metal fabrication, and grocery stores.

    The main focus of my job duties is to help assist my clients improve their health and safety program by providing hands-on safety training, OSHA compliance training, and overall risk management support. I am also a certified operator and training instructor for aerial lifts, rough terrain forklifts, and scissor lifts which include all makes and models. Prior to joining ECRM, I worked as the Safety and Environmental Director at a foam manufacturer. I attended Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management.

  • 8Angel Ranallo, CWCASenior Work Comp ClaimsAngel is ECRM’s ‘front-line’ claim specialist. Angel is usually our clients’ first point of contact when a work-related injury occurs. Here is where the crucial early-intervention and control of a workers’ compensation claim begins. Angel is responsible for incident investigation, directing patient care, managing the medical treatment, and coordinating early return-to-work. Angel follows the progress of an injured employee’s recovery, until a full duty work release and discharge from care are obtained.

    Angel has both an Associate Degree in Business and in Medical Assistance. She came to ECRM with fourteen years experience as a workers’ compensation case manager. Angel has worked for both Healthsouth and Highmark, in their Medical Consulting division. As a result, Angel now has excellent relationships with workers’ comp physicians in western Pennsylvania.

     

    ECRM clients have come to trust and depend on Angel for pro-active assistance and advice from the very outset of a workers’ compensation claim.

  • 9Ralph SittersonSenior Claims ManagerRalph Sitterson leads the Claims Management Division of Keystone. He regularly spends his workdays reviewing large losses to ensure proper investigation through his use of experts and possible defenses. He works in conjunction with insurance companies and third party administrators (TPA) to insure proper claims handling.

    Mr. Sitterson works with clients to develop improved initial claim reporting, gathering of information and securing names and contact information of witnesses. For example, he has designed extensive “slip-and-fall” procedures for large grocery store chains which have been proven to drastically reduce general liability claims paid. Mr. Sitterson also assists in identifying other courses of recovery such as enhanced subrogation and indemnification agreements.

     

    Mr. Sitterson’s passion is to improve the management and ultimate outcome of losses through early involvement. The Claim Management Division works hand in hand with your local agent and the insurance companies to ensure the clients receive full benefits from coverages afforded under their policies.

    He has over 30 years of claims management expertise and served as Claims Vice President for 15 years with a regional carrier owned by WR Berkley Corporation.

    I also earned my CPCU during this time. After staying home with my son for two years, I started working at the YMCA when I realized how much I missed the insurance industry.  I was lucky enough to find ECRM.

  • 16Jonathan Cunkelman, GSP, CWCAEnvironmental Safety & Health CoordinatorI started my Safety career by providing physical security equipment. I began by installing and maintaining large vehicle barriers for a manufacture in 1998. Over the next fifteen years, I worked for several companies installing, repairing, selling, and even designing physical security equipment. I was based in the Washington DC area, but traveled to many states and countries addressing security needs of small private companies to large federal agencies.

    In 2013 my position was downsized and rather than continue in the security field I chose to go back to school and earn my Safety, Health and Environmental BS degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In the Summer of 2015 I finished my degree requirements with an internship at Epic Metals in Pittsburgh. At Epic Metals I conducted several industrial hygiene reports, OSHA style audits, and provided training for employees.

     

    After graduation Epic Metals kept me on for a few projects and in the fall of 2015 I began working for ECRM as the ESH Coordinator at (CRF) Chestnut Ridge Foam. This position places me in the role of Environmental and Safety Director at their plant in Latrobe, PA. Although I work for ECRM I report to the VP of operations of this facility and provide boots on the ground service for the plant Environmental and Safety needs. As a newer safety professional this position allows me independence of handling the role for a mid sized company, but grants me the advantage of access to many other safety professionals to insure years of experience and specialties to back me.

     

    In the next few years I plan to expand my Environmental regulations knowledge and take my CSP exam.

Before joining the team at ECRM, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Iowa State University and worked in assorted industries including publishing, energy and manufacturing.

  • 18Lori SciulliSenior Claims ConsultantI came to ECRM in 2010 from UPMC WorkPartners where I handled the work injuries for the City of Pittsburgh Police Department, working closely with the FOP and City Administration to reduce their work injuries, ensure a safe return to work for Officers and reduce legacy claims.

    Prior to UPMC, I worked in the Occupational Health Department at Mercy Hospital coordinating care for hospital employees as well as outside clients who suffered on-the-job injuries. Prior to that, I was the in-house Workers’ Compensation Case Manager at Allegheny General Hospital, providing front line management for the work injuries of the employees from the onset of injury until return to regular or modified duty work. My career began as a Vocational Consultant for CorVel Corporation providing vocational efforts to various clients in an attempt to bring older, more difficult cases to fruition. I received my B.A. in Psychology from Edinboro University. My past work experience provided me the opportunity to work with different types of employees and employers in various job categories.
